Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is one of the best options for how to treat oily hair. You may be wondering how. Well, for starters, lemons have an acidic pH outside the body, which makes them great for oily hair. Once they enter your system through eating lemon juice or lemons, they alkalize the blood, but their acidic properties for your outside skin can help issues such as oily hair and even acne. Make an astringent rinse for your hair and your face by using lemon juice. Take the juice from 3 lemons and mix with a quart of water. Shampoo as normal and use as a rinse. It would be best to avoid oily conditioners and use ones specifically for oil hair.

2

Shampoo the Right Way

Speaking of shampoos and conditioners, be careful what you buy here! Don’t buy shampoos with added oils, such as argan oil which is great for dry hair. Instead, buy ones specifically tailored for oily hair and don’t go a day without washing your hair. Those with oily hair should be washing hair daily. Avoid products with silicone which can induce oily hair because they produce build-up and prevent thorough cleansing.

3

Make a Vinegar Rinse

Though it may not smell great, white or apple cider vinegar can be a great remedy for oily hair. They both acidify the scalp and cleanse away oils and impurities. Shampoo and rinse with 1 cup vinegar mixed with 1 quart of water. Do this 3- 4 times a week for best results. Be sure you rinse well though because it will stink! Vinegar works as a potent tonic for the scalp to get rid of build-up on the scalp, so don’t pass this by just because of the smell.

4

Don’t Be so Touchy

One of the best methods for how to treat oily hair is to simply stop touching it so much. Sometimes, by running your fingers through your hair or constantly playing with it, oil production glands are being activated, along with your hands containing natural oils, which end up in your hair.

5

Condition the Ends Only

You need to condition your hair. Otherwise, it will become so dry that you oil glands may go into overdrive. Then, you’ll have both oily hair and dandruff, which is definitely not a good thing. Use a dandruff shampoo and conditioner, and only condition the last half length of your hair. This will keep conditioner off the scalp and nourish your hair so dryness doesn't occur.

Choose Good Food

Believe it or not, what makes you hair oily is your hormone glands. Don’t think that it is just about your hair when it comes to having oily hair. What you put in your mouth directly affects your hormonal glands, including the ones that cause the hair on your scalp. If you reach for processed fats in sugar, they may be causing your hair to be oily. Choose fresh foods and healthy fats whenever possible. Choose lean, clean protein and less sugar from all sources. Your hormones will balance out and keep your oil glands working how they should be.

7

Consider Aloe Vera

Mix one tablespoon of aloe vera with your shampoo and shampoo, gently massaging your scalp with your fingers. Aloe vera works to detoxify the scalp of impurities, and provides a gentle, healing approach to cleansing the scalp instead of a chemical-based one.

8

De-stress with Exercise Such as Yoga or Walking

Life is stressful, and when you become stress, your hormones are in overdrive. Guess what? This means your hormones that affect your hair follicles are also in overdrive. This creates oily hair over time by over production of sweat glands. Stress less with gentle but effective forms of exercise such as yoga, Pilates or walking. The less you stress, the better. Relax as much as you can in micro-minutes during the day. Just five minutes on your lunch break, and 10 minutes after you get home can really make a difference.

9

Egg Yolk

Sounds icky right? Well it works! It helps to condition your hair and to remove excess oils and is has been an age old home remedy to treat excess oil in hair. All you have to do is take 2 egg yolks and beat it them together, then add a few drops of lemon juice and mix well once again. Just apply this on wet hair and leave it sit for five minutes. When you rinse, make sure that there is no reside left behind! If you use this treatment two to three times a week, you should begin to see an improvement.

10

Apple Cider Vinegar

I'm a big fan of home treatments! For this one, you need to make sure that you only use diluted apple cider vinegar. Simply add two to three tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to a mug of water and mix it well. Then, rinse your hair with this mixture and wash it off after a few minutes. If you repeat this process at least three times a week you should start to see a difference.

11

Avoid Too Many Hair Products

If you struggle with oily hair, try not using too much, or any, hair styling products. Also avoid excessive brushing of your hair! Hair products, like gel, have a tendency to add an oily look to your hair. If you already suffer from oily hair, this can make your hair appear to have more oil than it already does. Try to avoid using products unless they're absolutely necessary.

12

Tea

Tea isn't just something warm and yummy to consume, it can help a lot with oily hair as well! Tea has an ingredient known as tannic acid that will help in reducing the oil in your hair. Just boil tea leaves or tea powder in a glass of water and, when it is warm but not hot, apply the mixture to your scal and leave it for five minutes. After, just rinse your hair and wash with shampoo to remove all of the tea.

13

Honey

This treatment takes a little longer than the others, but it does the trick! Take two teaspoons of pure honey and add an egg yolk. Mix well and allow it to dissolve for 30 minutes, then apply the mixture to your hair and let sit for 20 minutes. Make sure to wash and rise your hair well to get all of the mixture out. Repeat this twice a week, if you can, to get rid of oily hair.

My roots are oily but my tips are dry :-(

but aloe vera and shampoo - how long do you leave it in your hair? only when you're bathing?

Really helps a lot !

Washing daily is not right for oily hair..it just makes it oilier..i've had oily hair since i can remember and just some weeks ago i started to wash my hair one in 2 or 3 days and it made them really less oilier. Also baking soda makes ends very dry so u might use some kind of conditioner or coconut oil only in the ends. Vinegar rinse is also very good..but the smell is bad though:(

I use aloe Vera mixed in with my shampoo and it works!

This helps a lot!
