Going to the hair salon can be a bit pricey, so why worry about it? We have excellent hair care choices that we can do right from home, and the cost is much less. I even go so far as to cut and perm my own hair, though I fully understand if you choose to go the hair salon for something like that. However, with the products that you can find in your cupboards at home and on the shelves of your local store, there's no need to visit your hair salon for anything else. Following are 7 of the best at-home hair care tips and the products to go with them!

Get Rid of That Dandruff!

The causes of dandruff are many from simple things like stress, not enough sleep and poor nutrition to more serious causes such as allergic reactions and hormonal imbalance. No matter the cause, it is something you can get rid of. However, if dandruff reoccurs several times, you may want to see a dermatologist. Your fix for dandruff at home is quite simple. If dandruff shampoos don't work for you, you can try this completely homemade remedy. For this concoction, said to have excellent results, simply mix 2 tbsp of glycerin, 2 tbsp of vinegar, 2 tbsp of almond oil, and 2 tbsp of coconut oil together with 1 egg. Shake well, and apply to your hair, letting it set for 15 minutes. Wash off with a mild shampoo like baby shampoo and you're done! You can also try a scalp massage made with half a cup of almond oil and a half cup of olive oil. Massage this into your scalp for 5 minutes and then rinse with warm water. You can also find may other home remedies for dandruff on YouTube and how to make and use them.

Bounce Back

If your hair has lost it's life and vitality, and you need to put a little bounce back into your locks, there is a miracle at your local supermarket - apple cider vinegar! After shampooing your hair, rinse your hair in a mixture of 1 cup water and 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar. Leave this on for about five minutes, rinse, and then apply your conditioner like usual. Not only is this good for bounce, but apple cider vinegar on your hair is good for restoring natural ph balance and smoothing your hair cuticles for shine. It's an all around good at-home remedy to use about once a week to once every two weeks.

Frizz Free

Frizzy hair is a result of over-processed hair and hair that is severely dry. There are a couple remedies that you can do in your own home with things that can be found in your kitchen or at the local supermarket. My favorite is the coconut milk mixture. Simply take a half of a can of coconut milk, and mix with 2 tbsp of olive oil and 2 tbsp of honey. Mix well and apply to your hair. After letting it set for 10 minutes, rinse and shampoo as usual. You can also leave out the coconut milk and do a simple mixture of equal parts of honey and olive oil. Heat in the microwave, apply to your hair and allow to set 10 minutes, before shampooing. Honey is really good for bringing moisture to your hair, as it naturally draws moisture. Just be sure to never use honey alone, and it can knot your hair up pretty bad causing breakage.

Softer is Better

If you hair is lacking that soft and healthy feeling, try something that has been well known for ages. Mix a couple eggs with some mayonnaise and olive oil and apply to your hair for about a half an hour. While it's on your hair, cover with a shower cap and relax for a while. Rinse and shampoo as usual, and you're sure to have soft, flowing hair after it dries!

5

No Hair Growth?

Supposedly the follow at-home recipe is said to encourage faster hair growth. I am not for certain on accuracy, but one woman swore to gaining 3 inches in 3 months, versus the average 1.5 inches in a 3 month period. For this remedy, mix 2 tbsp of olive oil, 1 tsp of honey,, 1 tsp coconut oil, and a half of an avocado. Mash your avocado and then add the mixture of the other ingredients to it. The mixture will look chunky and thick. Then, apply to your hair, leaving on for about 5 minutes. Rinse and shampoo as usual. As I said, I can't guarantee these results, but hey, even if it doesn't make your hair grow faster, this is still a great moisture treatment for your hair. Another product you can try is the Castor Oil hair treatment you can buy at places like CVS.

No Heat

It's best to avoid using heat on your hair unless absolutely necessary. Heat is damaging to your hair. When you're going to blow dry your hair, set it on cool to warm rather than hot, and let your hair air dry when possible. When you have to use something like a flat iron, make sure to use a heat protection spray on your hair first. Nexxus offers a great product in the field. But the general rule of thumb should be no heat to avoid damaged, over-worked hair.

Take Care of Wet Hair

Your hair is most vulnerable to damage when wet. That is why you should limit brushing when wet, and why blow drying with heat can be damaging to your hair as well. Instead, if you must brush when wet, choose a wide toothed comb or pick and gently comb your hair, starting with the ends and working your way up. Then, when your hair is completely dry, you can follow up with a brush. Wet hair tends to stretch and break more easily than dry hair does. So be sure to be gentle with your hair, and treat it right.

These are just a few at-home hair care tips that will work well for you. I hope you find them useful. Please feel free to comment about your favorite at-home hair care tip as well!
