1

Treat Your Hair with Coconut Milk

hair, white, clothing, lady, hairstyle, There's a reason why the coconut is called the tree of life. Everything about it can be used for different purposes. As for coconut milk, don't just limit its use to making chicken curry. You can actually use coconut milk as an effective hair treatment product. After you shampoo and condition your hair, divide your hair into small parts and start massaging coconut milk on your scalp. Proceed to apply the milk from roots to tips. Coconut milk has a distinct smell so if you want to try this out, do it on a Friday night when there's no work the following day or you have no plans of going out of the house over the weekend.

2

Check for Sulfate-free, Silicone-free Products

hair, clothing, hairstyle, lady, beauty, There are a couple of good products out there but remember to check those that are sulfate-free and silicone-free; you don't need those chemicals, especially if you have dry and damaged black hair. Dry roots are huge brunette problems. Your fairy godmothers at your favorite salon can help repair the damage but if it's beyond repair, consider getting a new hairstyle.

3

Wash Your Hair Every Other Day

hair, hairstyle, long hair, brown hair, braid, Unless your work area surrounds you with dust and other pollutants, then feel free to wash your hair every day. Otherwise, skip a day before washing your hair. Or wash your hair three times a week. That gives time for your scalp to breathe and natural oil to come out and do its job in taking care of your hair. Your natural oil is your best hair defense. It has been there long before all fancy hair products entered the picture.

4

Let Your Hair Drink Beer

hair, clothing, hairstyle, long hair, brown hair, There are companies which came out with beer hair products that eliminate the beer smell so you can use the product and need not be absent for work the following day for fear of being judged that you partied the night away. However, nothing beats the real deal. Beer is said to be rich in vitamins and proteins and the alcohol cleanses off impurities, leaving a soft and shiny effect. Try it one weekend to find out for yourself. If it doesn't, then you can have a bottle or two with pizza.

5

Try a Wig

hair, hairstyle, braid, long hair, black hair, You've been a brunette all your life and you want a bit of change. Go blonde perhaps? Before you make a big shift, try putting on a wig to see how you will look in that hair color. Does it suit your skin tone? Does it flatter the color of your eyes? Do you feel good about it?

Avoid Drastic Change if You Can

hair, face, clothing, hairstyle, long hair, Still in the subject of coloring... a major change may be too much for you so you might want to play the progression game. What's that? Basically, don't make any drastic changes, say from black to blonde. You may want to go from black to dark brown first and compare the results. There are so many shades to choose from.

7

Consider Humidity

hair, hairstyle, long hair, brown hair, black hair, Humidity can suck the life out of your hair and it's pretty nasty on brunettes. Do not forget to protect your hair with natural shine polish and serum so your mane has the first line of defense when hair monsters make their way to destroy it.

Are you a brunette beauty? What do you do to take care of your brown/black hair?

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

Well I wash my hair once a week (unless I go swimming or I'm going out somewhere special and I want to straighten/curl it), and it's all in good condition and my hair dresser is jealous of it. Haha :) I've been doing this for most of my life so it's used to lasting that long and doesn't get greasy quickly, plus I rarely apply heat to it nor have I ever dyed it, which probably helps.

@Radhika you can use vinegar, it really helps make it shiny. I wash my hair with heinz vinegar at least once a month.
