Isn't it a good time to update that whole situation happening on top of your pretty head? Why not go for a fresh, fab new look that lends itself well to the icy temps and feisty winter winds? Courtesy of Elle, here are five phenomenal 'dos to consider this season, all recommended by celebrity stylist Cervando Maldonado.

Full Fringe with a Little Texture

Last year, the short shag was all the rage. This year, that look evolves into something a little less structured and a little more textured. If you want to evoke the same sexy vibes as Kerry Washington, Naomi Campbell, or Dakota Johnson, the key is to go for loose waves and full but piece-y bangs that skim your eyebrows. To maintain this style, Cervando Maldonado recommends coming in for a haircut every 8-10 weeks but go in every five weeks to get your fringe trimmed. To get that carelessly chic, tousled bedhead, you'll definitely need some volumizing spray.

A Sleek Bob with a Contouring Cut

Then again, if layering isn't your thing, you can go with an altogether sleeker look for the winter. Called the Contouring Cut, this bob angles toward the collarbone, as subtly or sharply as you like. Either way, the cut highlights your cheekbones and emphasizes the shape of your face. It works best with a sharp center part – Maldonado suggests using a rat tail comb – and straight hair, although a soft under curl at the ends won't hurt.

3

The Highest Ponytail

If you're rocking longer hair but need a little relief, or if you simply crave some drama, a simple high ponytail is perfect. It goes from day to evening, works at the office, in class, or at the gym, and it draws attention to all your best features. Make sure you pull your pony as high as you can, slick it back smoothly, and make sure you add volume to the tail itself. According to Cervando, a bungee hair elastic gives the most lift, and it's not a bad idea to use your curling iron before you put up your hair, as well.

4

Flip Your Crop

The Flipped Crop is another up-and-coming super style for the season, one with a slightly punk rock touch of androgyny that is oh so appealing. There are several ways to fake this cut with bobby pins, updos, and layers, but if you want to take the plunge, you'll be getting mad volume by wearing your hair flipped over to one side. Maldonado's advice is to create you part when your hair is wet, then blow dry it to help set it in place.

5

Slick It Back

Ideal for long, medium, and even semi-short hair, the Slick Sweepback is simple but sophisticated. Like many other hot winter styles, it's designed to draw attention to your gorgeous face. Slick back your hair, tuck any stray strands behind your ears, and give it a tiny spritz of spray. Better yet, follow Cervando's advice: blow your hair dry and make it straight, then use a good, matte wax to help sweep it back. That will also keep it from looking greasy.

I'm thinking I need to try a bob this winter. How about you?
