Shampoo Often

The easiest and best oily hair treatment just involves shampooing as much as possible. Normally, it's better to wait a day or two between shampoos. However, when you've got oily hair, you really can't do that. If your scalp produces an abundance of oil, this method won't hurt your hair. It will just help you keep a handle on that greasy appearance.

Dish Washing Liquid

Believe it or not, if you wash your hair with a dish soap that promises to kill grease, you can do your hair a world of good. All you have to do is put two or three drops of it into your shampoo and scrub away. That should take care of a lot of the excess oil.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is really wonderful – and it also makes one of the best oily hair treatments you can use. All you need to do is take the juice from one lemon, mix it in with a cup of water, and then rinse your hair with the mixture. Let it soak for a bit, and then rinse your hair in warm water.

Cider Vinegar

Cider vinegar is also extremely helpful in getting rid of excess oil in your hair. Fill your sink with water – a bucket, or a small basin, what have you – and then pour a quarter of a cup of cider vinegar into it. Rinse your hair in it, let it soak in, and then wash it out using warm water. Voila!

Beer

Beer makes a great hair rinse for a number of reasons, and it can also help with oil. Actually, what you do here is use the beer as a setting lotion. Can you believe it? But it really will help your hair set and hold any style you choose.

Witch Hazel

In addition to being helpful in many other areas, witch hazel is another of the best oily hair treatments. It's an astringent, which makes all the difference. What it does is slow down the amount of oil your sebaceous glands produce. That's actually the same reason why it's recommended for skin care. If you want real results, take some witch hazel, mix it with mouthwash, of all things, and either blot it onto your scalp using a cotton ball or make a mixture and apply it whenever you shampoo your hair.

Essential Oils

Many holistic treatments can also help you battle the oil in your hair. Essential oils are great for this. For instance, eight or so drops of rose geranium along with eight drops of lemongrass mixed in with your shampoo can work veritable wonders!

As you can see, you can generally find the ingredients for some of the best oily hair treatments right in your cupboards and pantries. You don't have to spend a fortune at the store to get the grease out of your hair. What else do you use when you're having an oily hair day?
