If you are a girl like me, a girl with naturally curly hair that wants nothing more than for it to be straight all the time, then you will know the living hell of having to apply heat to it all the time! Sure, a flat iron does the job, but at the same time it can also do a lot of damage with repeated usage. If only there were a way to achieve nice, smooth, straight locks without having to burn the curls out every time, right? Here is how to get straight hair without heat!

1

Right Shampoo

The process can start even before your hair is dry. You need to choose a shampoo and conditioner combo that is made specifically to smooth your hair. They are designed to weigh it down by locking the moisture in the follicles. Post washing, you can also do well to apply a leave-in conditioner or a smoothing cream to add extra weight. Don’t worry, if you rinse thoroughly you won’t be left with any kind of greasiness!

2

Towel Dry

Avoid heat not only in the form of straighteners but also in the form of a hairdryer. Too much blow drying can leave your hair dry and damaged, and more likely to curl and kink. Instead, use a towel to slowly and gently remove the moisture from your hair; going too quick and being too frenzied can cause frizz and tangles.

3

Brush It out

Once you have towel dried, and there is still the last drops of moisture in your hair, you should set about brushing it out and down. This is usually a no-no for anyone with curly hair, but if the aim is to straighten it, you need to make sure that the last stages of total drying occur with your hair in as straight a position as you can get it with brushing and combing.

4

Silk Scarf

Sleeping at night on your pillow can cause more problems for your hair than you might realise. To avoid frizzing and creasing while you sleep, wrap your hair in a silky smooth scarf. When you come to unravel it in the morning, it will have preserved you hair in a tighter, straighter fashion than if you have just let it roll all over your pillow for hours.
