In these warmer months, it is nice to have the option of wearing different buns. Buns keep your hair off your neck all while looking stylish. Buns can be cuter than a basic ponytail without much additional effort. Because of this, I believe different buns should be a staple for hairstyles this year.

1. Top Knot Bun
One of the different buns you should rock in the warmer months is the top knot. There are many different way to get this look, but one of the simplest involves tying an actual knot in your hair. First, brush your hair back into a ponytail positioned where you want your bun to be. Then, take your ponytail and hold onto it a couple inches down from the ponytail holder. Next, take the end of the pony tail and put it through the section you are holding with your hand, creating a knot. Finally, bobby pin the loose pieces around the sides to complete your top knot bun! This is one of my favorite ways to wear a bun this year.
2. Sock Bun
If you haven’t already heard of the sock bun, you are missing out! It is one of the easiest ways to wear a bun during the warmer months. You can get this cute look in just a few simple steps. First, take a sock and cut off the toe, creating a tunnel. Secondly, fold the sock down multiple times until it resembles a donut. Thirdly, put your hair back into a smooth ponytail. Then, hold your ponytail up high in the air and put the sock at the end of your roots. Next, fold your hair down over the sock until you reach the base of your ponytail. All that’s left is to pin and spray as needed. Getting a gorgeous bun has never been easier!

3. Messy Bun
I love a messy bun because they come without any rules. The object, after all, is to make the bun appear messy! With a messy bun, it is okay to have pieces hanging out of the bun or on the sides of your head. You can create a messy bun by simply bending over, letting your hair fall down, gathering it up, and throwing a ponytail holder into your tresses. There are more complicated ways to make a messy bun, but I love a messy bun for its simplicity.
4. Sleek Bun
Another great bun look is the exact opposite of the messy bun – the sleek bun. This look requires patience and the right hair type. This look doesn’t exactly work for every hair type. It’s best if you don’t have short layers that could cause the bun to look unkempt. You can sleek your bun back into any style on this list (except of course, messy) but the trick is making everything as smooth as possible. It’s all about the phase where you put your hair up into a ponytail. Make sure there are no flyaways or pieces falling down. Hairspray will be your new best friend when creating a sleek bun. If you don’t have naturally straight hair, be sure to run a flat iron through your hair beforehand too! Sleek buns are perfect for events and parties in the warmer months.
5. Coiled Bun
Coiled buns are another great option to wear this year. You can leave your hair in its natural state before beginning, which is nice and saves time. There are different ways to get a coiled bun, but my favorite way just involves twisting. First brush your hair and divide it into two sections down the middle. Then, twist each side until the twist gets to your scalp. Next, take the two sections and twist them together until they naturally start forming a ball on your scalp. Use this time to shape the bun how you want, then pin and spray. This cute style is so easy and will keep you cool all summer.
If you're looking for a bit more flair, embellish your coiled bun with accessories like scrunchies or decorative pins. To add some elegance for evening wear, weave in a satin ribbon or tuck in some fresh flowers for a boho-chic vibe. If you have layers or bangs that tend to escape, use those to your advantage for a messy-chic look that's both effortless and stylish. Remember, the coiled bun is not only about keeping cool—it's also about looking cool, so feel free to personalize it to match your unique style.

6. Hair Bow
The hair bow is one of my favorite ways to wear a bun in the warmer months. Lady Gaga made the hair bow famous and other celebrities, such as Paris Hilton, have worn the look on the red carpet as well. It can be cute, elegant, casual, or classy. The easiest way to get the look is to gather your hair up into a ponytail on the top of your head but before you pull your hair all the way through the final time, stop halfway to create a bump. Then separate the bump in half and pull apart – these will serve as the sides of the bow. Next, take the remaining strands of hair that you didn’t pull through the ponytail holder and wrap it around the middle of the two sides, then wrap the remainder around the ponytail holder. Bobby pin and spray so that your hair bow will keep rocking as long as you do!
7. Ballerina Bun
The ballerina bun is a classic look that is always appropriate and in style. To get this timeless style, begin with straight hair. Brush your hair into a ponytail (you can wear it high, or in the middle back of your head). A trick I like to use is to add a little mousse to the ends of my ponytail to make them easier to work with and then let it dry (you can use a hair dryer). Using a hair donut (or a sock) wrap your hair around it securing as needed. Spray and you’re all set! You can experiment with braids or by wrapping pieces of your hair around the ponytail holder also. There are many variations on this classic look!
I love trying out these different buns throughout the warmer months. Buns, in my opinion, are the perfect summer hairstyle. What are some of your favorite ways to wear a bun? Give us your ideas in the comments section so we can all try out the different styles.
