1 You Have to Determine Your Hair Style
Yep! You have to find one that works for you. There isn't a 'set style' with natural hair.
2 You've Got to Buy New Hair Care Products
You just need to find products that work for you. You don't have to use the exact same set of products as your that your friend who is also natural.
3 Your Hair Will Fall out
This won't happen. What does happen is that once you stop relaxing your hair, the new growth does start coming through and the area where your natural hair meets the relaxed hair will flex and weaken, so your hair may break off right there. What that means is you'll have to cut off the relaxed ends.
4 Natural Hair Breaks Most than Relaxed Hair
Damaged hair is damaged hair. Whether it is relaxed or not doesn't mean it isn't prone to breakage. It is super important for you to keep your hair healthy and moisturized regardless.
5 Water Dries Your Hair out
Pure, soft water will not dry your hair out. Rinsing or steaming your hair is actually amazing! If your water contains a lot of chemicals though, you will get a buildup in your hair.
6 Natural Hair is Harder to Manage
Going natural is a decision and truthfully, it is not more difficult than maintaining a beautiful relaxed hairstyle. Think about it!
7 You Can't Wear Natural Hair in a Work Place
Why? Because it's textured? Eff that; you'll look great and rock it!
8 You Need to Have a Certain 'curl Type' of Hair
Not at all. You'll rock any and all textures that you have!
9 You Have to Have a Certain Face Shape to do the 'Big Chop'
Sure, you are going to be nervous about getting The Big Chop, but that doesn't mean that you aren't going to look amazing! Just be confident!
10 YOU CAN ONLY WEAR WASH-N-GO’S, PUFFS and TWIST-OUTS when YOU GO NATURAL
You think you only can wear 3 different styles? That's it? Nope! Just use Google!
11 Going Natural Will Make Your Hair Grow Longer and Faster
No. It won't happen. See #16 girls.
12 NATURAL HAIR CAN HANDLE CHEMICAL COLOR BETTER without BREAKAGE
Chemical treatments are always going to leave textured hair a bit weaker, but it's okay to color your natural hair. Just be prepared to take care of your beautiful strands a little more.
13 You Can Still Flat Iron Your Natural Hair
Nope. Nope. Nope. Don't do it. When hair is flat-ironed, protein and moisture links are broken which results in a curly hair becoming straight. This could cause your hair to break even more.
14 NATURAL HAIR REQUIRES a PRE-POO, CO-WASH, ACV RINSE and so Much More
Girls, there are tons of different natural routines out there that you can try. Just look them up on YouTube and find the one that works for you.
15 You Can Reverse a Perm or Relaxer
Girls. Not. Nothing will reverse a permanent chemical relaxer or perm. It's a chemical process which breaks the bonds in your hair and no, it can not be reversed. Keep that in mind!
16 Grease Will Help Your Hair Grow Faster
No it won't. Nothing you put on your hair will make your hair grow faster. You've got to increase the circulation in your scalp to make your hair grow faster.
17 To Go Natural, You Will Have to Cut All of Your Hair off
Okay, so this one is true and untrue. You eventually will have to cut off all of the relaxed ends or you'll have to let them break off or shed out. You do not have to cut all of your hair off right away. There are different ways that you can transition from relaxer to natural.
