Contrary to the advice Gramma gave you, it’s never a good idea to brush your hair 100 strokes before bed each night. All that brushing won’t make thin hair thicker — it will just encourage breakage and split ends and other hair-thinning damage. Brush only as long as you need to in order to get the tangles out, and even then, use a good leave-in detangler before you brush.
Before you buy a new bottle of shampoo or conditioner, check the label to see if it contains sodium laureth sulfate, or sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES). If so, you may want to choose another, since these chemical compounds have been proven to cause scalp irritation and even allergic reactions resulting in — gasp! — hair loss! L’oreal has a new line of sulfate-free hair care products… if you want to make your thin hair a little thicker, give them a try!
I can’t stress enough how important it is to use the right headbands, elastics, and pins in your hair if you’re wondering how to make thin hair thicker. Always make sure to use elastics and headbands that are cloth-covered, not plain rubber, to avoid hair breakage and damage. Also, don’t over-use these accessories!
