1. Cold Water Shower
Once you are done shampooing and conditioning your hair, use the coldest possible water you can withstand (without giving yourself chilblains) for the last rinse. It seals your hair cuticles causing them to appear slick and frizz-free.
2. Use the Correct Technique to Blow Dry
People with frizzy hair need to learn the right technique to blow dry their hair – which is using the downward motion. Do not run it up and down your hair since it causes hair cuticles to split.
Frequently asked questions
3. Hot Olive Oil Massage
Olive oil is a great home remedy to tame your frizzy hair. Apply warm olive oil evenly through your hair. Cover it with a shower cap and wrap a hot towel around it. This home treatment once a week works wonders for ill-behaved frizzy locks.
4. Use a Homemade Hair Pack
A very easy hair pack can be made at home by using half a cup of mayonnaise and olive oil each along with an egg and mixing them into a fine paste. Apply this to damp hair and leave it on for about 30 minutes or so. Rinse out as usual with shampoo and conditioner. Voila, Smooth and shiny hair at no extra cost!
5. Condition Intensively
Use a leave in conditioner, after every hair wash. Once a week, go in for a deep conditioning treatment that you can easily pick up from any beauty store and follow within the comforts of your home. This will definitely tame your frizzy hair and give you shiny locks!
6. Moisturize Well
In addition to conditioning, you must also keep your hair well moisturized. Also, avoid using shampoos and conditioner that contain alcohol or excess amounts of sodium lauryl sulfate. These dry your hair fast and cause a lot of frizz.
7. Trim
As a rule, frizzy hair is also highly fragile. It tends to break easily and have more split ends. This aggravates your frizzy hair condition even more. For this reason, you must get your hair trimmed once every month to keep the frizz under control.
8. Establish a Night Routine for Your Hair
The best time to wash your hair is generally at night, after which you should avoid using a brush to untangle wet hair. Those with frizzy hair would be better off using a wide-tooth comb. Avoid sleeping if your hair is damp. Finally, before you go to sleep, braid your hair so you won’t have frizzy hair the next morning.
9. Protect Your Frizzies
Take the precautions to protect your hair from the harsh elements of nature, which can dry out your hair. Wear a hat or a scarf when out in the sun; during winters moisturize your hair more; avoid exposure to chlorinated water; and wear a swim cap when in the pool to tame your frizzy hair.
10. Stop Abusing Your Hair
Shampooing every day, towel drying too roughly, untangling your hair with vicious brush strokes...all this falls under the category of abusive behavior. Continue like this and you very well deserve your frizzy and damaged hair. If you care enough, mend your ways and treat your hair gently.
Now that you are done taking down notes, what are you going to start with first? Know any great hair care tips of your own to tame frizzy hair you can add to this list?
