7 Easy Ways to Say No to Heat Styling This Year ...

By Teresa5 Comments

It’s not always easy to say no to heat styling, but it is immensely worth it. Most people claim that they need heat styling in order to make their hair look nice. While this may be true for some people, it’s definitely not always the case. If you try to say no to heat styling, you may realize that you won’t ever go back. In fact, you may never want to!

1 Your Hair Will Thank You

It’s easy to forget, but our hair needs a break from heat every once in a while. Even if you’re using heat protectant, there’s nothing that can help your hair like avoiding heat can. Of course, there’s no way to reverse damage without cutting your hair, but if you say no to heat styling and spend a little time conditioning, your hair will thank you.

Frequently asked questions

2 Find a New Favorite Heat-Free Style

If you have a heat-free hairstyle that you love, it won’t be hard to forgo the heat products. In fact, you may enjoy it. I stopped heat styling this year, and it hasn’t been too difficult because I’ve found a few favorite hairstyles that take half the time and are way cuter. My favorite heat-free style is sock bun curls. They require a little bit of planning in advance (you have to sleep on them), but they’re so easy!

3 Get Rid of Your Heat Styling Products

Of course I don’t mean that you should throw out your heat styling products. We all have days where we’re running late and need to blow-dry our hair, or need to run a flat iron through a few stray pieces. However, get someone in your house to hide your heat styling products from you, so you can’t pick them up and use them when you’re feeling lazy. I personally like to save heat-styling products for special occasions or emergencies, simply because I know it’s helping my hair by not using them.

4 You May like Your Natural Hair More

You may find that you like your natural hair more than your heat-styled hairstyles. It will probably take some getting used to, but chances are you’ll come to love it more. Once you figure out new ways to style it, you may find that you don’t want to go back to your heat-styling products, because your natural hair works better.

5 Your Hair Will Grow

It’s been seven months since I (for the most part) stopped using heat styling products. In that time, my hair has grown so much more than usual. Everyone asks me what I did, and I can’t help but think that it’s because I’ve stopped using heat on my hair. If you’re looking to grow your hair, avoiding heat styling products will definitely help you do just that.

6 You Don’t Need Heat

After a few months of heat-free styling, you’ll probably be shocked to find that you don’t need those heat styling products. You once loved them like your life depended on them, but they’re really not as necessary as you once thought. Eventually, it probably won’t even faze you to forgo heat during your morning routine!

7 Your Split Ends Will Disappear

Get a trim before you try your own heat-free challenge. Try to eliminate the majority of the split ends. Once you embark on your heat-free challenge, you will probably be shocked to find that the split ends are non-existent, even weeks later. A few years ago, I was guilty of using a flat iron on my hair everyday, even though my hair was naturally straight. My split ends were terrible, and unnecessarily so. After a trim and a ban on heat products, I’ve never seen so few split ends on my hair. It’s amazing how simple it is to fix something that’s such a nuisance to so many women!

Obviously going heat-free isn’t possible for all types of hair, but don’t rule it out just yet. Try it out, and let me know how it goes. Have you gone heat-free before? Did you like it? I personally love it, but I’m lucky enough to have hair that lets me avoid heat styling products regularly.
