What are the best semi-permanent hair color brands? Hair color is a passion of mine. There are so many beautiful colors one can achieve with their hair and unnatural colors have always been my favorite. I love to not only look at others "crazy" hair colors, but I enjoy changing my own hair color on what feels like a monthly basis. So here is a short list of some of the best semi-permanent hair color brands.

1. Special Effects
Price: $13.94
amazon.com
Now, this is one brand that, if you have ever colored your hair an unnatural color, I am sure you have at least heard of. If you have not purchased any of their colors you need to get out there and buy some! I have used many brands and I always find Special Effects not only lasts the longest out of the others on this list, but it does not rub off on my pillow, shirts, etc. That's why it's one of the best semi-permanent hair color brands out there.
Special Effects does have some downsides I have come across though. For example, it can be difficult to find, depending on what color you are going for. That is why I have not purchased from this company in a while because all the colors that I am drawn to that they have are almost always on back order. Another thing that may be a downside to some is that this hair color can be on the more expensive side. If money is not a problem, and you have the patience to wait for your order, then go ahead and buy!
2. Manic Panic
Price: $9.99
manicpanic.com
This wouldn’t be a list for unnatural hair color if this brand was not to make an appearance. This is one of those brands that has been around for years. Manic Panic was one of the leaders in bringing about these "crazy" colors. Now do not get me wrong, Manic Panic has some beautiful colors, but it is not the top dog anymore when it comes to quality of color. There are still some pros to buying these colors. There are plenty of colors to pick from, so there is something for everyone. Also, since Manic Panic is so popular, it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle to find a jar of this in your local beauty supply store. As someone who is impulsive, sometimes I want to be able to decide I want a new color and go straight into my local store and pick one.
If you want the color to last a while before it fades, then Manic Panic may not be the right choice for you. On the flip side, if you are one of those people that like to change their color every few weeks, then this brand is for you. If you prefer a tried and true company, then give this one a shot!

3. ION
Price: $5.99
ionathome.com
I did not choose a specific line from the ION semi-permanent colors because I recommend all of them. The brights, neons, jewel tones, and pastels are all great! This brand is in the lower price range, so if you are wanting a "crazy" color on a budget, then Ion may just be for you. As someone who has very thick hair, I usually gravitate to this brand because of the cheaper price because I need a lot of product to fully saturate my hair. Like all the other brands, there are pros and cons depending on what you are looking for in a hair color.
This brand’s formula is very thick so you will need to dilute it with white conditioner so it will be easier to apply to your hair. Be careful though, because if you add too much conditioner, you will dilute the color and you will get different results than you planned. This brand hits and misses with staying power. Some shades are almost permanent, whereas other colors can fade out within a week or two. If you are okay with the inconsistency, then give this brand a try!
4. Arctic Fox
Price: $7.99
arcticfoxhaircolor.com
Arctic Fox is a newcomer to the unnatural hair color scene and they are rocking it! Not only is it vegan, but they donate a percentage of their profit to help animals, which is a big plus in my book. This brand is up there with Special Effects with its lasting power. These colors are very pigmented and they stay in your hair longer than most vegetable-based colors. This is a more expensive brand though, so keep that in mind when you go shopping. This is my "treat myself" brand because of the price.
Arctic Fox is lacking in variety of colors. If you like companies that donate money and create high-quality products with a strong lasting power, then Arctic Fox may be for you!
