I like kitchen staples for so much more than just cooking. One reason being, I prefer to use natural ingredients on my hair. If you’ve ever read the list of ingredients on a bottle of shampoo, conditioner or hair mask, there are things on there I can’t even pronounce. That doesn’t make me feel too comfortable about slicking them onto my strands. So, here is a sample of great kitchen staples you can use on your locks for smooth, shiny hair that you’re going to absolutely love!

1 Mayonnaise

That’s right – it’s not just for sandwiches and is one of the best kitchen staples for your hair. Mayonnaise can help tame frizzy hair and leave your mane shiny and healthy. It’ll also smooth flyaways and leave you with hair you’re going to be proud to show off. Glop on a ½ cup or so right on your plain, dry strands. Leave it on for about 30 minutes, then hop in the shower and wash it out with shampoo and warm water. Get ready to be amazed!

2 Baking Soda

Think about how baking soda tends to fizz when it’s combined with liquid. Those bubbles are perfect for dissolving built up hair products and other residue on your hair. And it’s so easy to use too. Simply put some shampoo in the palm of your hand, sprinkle on a tablespoon or so of baking soda and mix with your finger. Then apply, suds up and rinse as usual. You can do this once a week or so to keep your hair from looking dull and limp.

Use avocado to treat split ends – and who doesn’t have some of those? Simply mash it up pretty good and press it into the ends of your hair. You can use a bit of milk or water if you need to thin it out a bit. Let it sit on the ends of your tresses for a few minutes then shampoo as usual. The good fats in avocado are great for hydrating your hair and keeping it strong and healthy.

5 Apple Cider Vinegar

It might remind you of dying Easter eggs, but vinegar can really cut through the grease while also disinfecting and adding shine to your hair. Shampoo as usual, then use about a ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar when you rinse. You’ll be amazed at how shiny your hair is when it dries.

6 Eggs

I’m talking raw eggs here. Simply whisk them up a bit, add some oil to thicken, then rub the whole mess onto your hair and scalp. You may want to do this in the shower to keep the mess under control. Massage the mixture in well to give the ingredients a chance to do their work. Then wash your hair as you normally do. Eggs are loaded with protein, which makes them perfect for revitalizing hair and making it strong and healthy.

7 Yogurt

Yogurt is the perfect natural alternative to conditioner. All the protein it contains will help make your hair strong and luscious and the fats in the yogurt nourish and smooth your strands. Just rub in a handful or so, massage it through your mane, then wash and rinse.
