9 Ways to Avoid a Bad Hair Day ...

By Lyndsie2 Comments

I've been having lots of bad hair days lately. My hair is just set on misbehaving. It's like it is in its teens and I'm in my twenties and we're just having fights all the time. I went looking for some ways to avoid a bad hair day and found tons, which I just have to share, because there's no way I'm the only person going through this, right? Bad hair days do not discriminate between age, gender, hair color, style, or length. They are equal opportunity disasters.

1 Bedtime Conditioning

Conditioning your hair while you sleep is a great way to avoid a bad hair day. Because conditioner is one of those things that won't necessarily improve a bad hair day while it's happening, it's sometimes better to condition your hair beforehand. You can put your regular conditioner on your hair before you sleep, or try a deep conditioner. The morning after, rinse it out of your hair, but don't use shampoo!

Frequently asked questions

2 The Drying Effect

The way you dry your hair can have a profound affect on it. I know some people don't feel like they can get away with not blow drying their hair – the Better Half is one of them – but occasionally, you need to just let your hair air dry. It will be much easier to control, and it won't end up looking limp and tired.

3 Sleeping on Silk

Another way to avoid a bad hair day involves sleeping on silk – a silk pillowcase, that is. Cotton pillowcases will steal all the moisture out of your hair, whereas a silk case isn't that absorbent. You can also use a satin pillowcase, it will also help keep your hair as moisturized as it needs to be to stay healthy and obedient.

4 Down and Dirty

I know it may sound icky to some of you, but some days, you don't need to wash your hair. On the contrary, it's better if you take a break every now and then. Your hair won't get grody looking, I promise. The thing to remember is that clean hair doesn't always mean good hair, because again, you're leeching essential moisture out of the strands. Washing every other day will work just fine.

5 Household Magic

There are a number of household products you can use that will help you to get rid of all your bad hair days. For instance, you can use a dryer sheet to get rid of static electricity. Hand lotion can moisturize your hair when you've got a lot of frizz. If your hair is too oily on a given day, however, rub some baby powder on your roots. You can also use a mix of lemon juice or vinegar and baking soda to get rid of build up.

6 The Primrose Path

Evening primrose presents another fantastic way to avoid a bad hair day. The oils in this plant, which is lovely on its own, can treat a number of things, such as eczema, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, breast pain, and may even be able to treat cancer. The oils in it are also great for your hair and scalp.

7 Awesome Avocado

There are many products which make great conditioners that work to banish bad hair days as well, such as avocados. Avocado is naturally oily, and as such, it does a great job of moisturizing hair shafts. It also provides your hair with plenty of protein, so it will be that much stronger and healthier.

8 All Hail Olive Oil

Mwuahaha! Olive oil! Olive oil is great for your hair, and it makes an excellent conditioner that will successfully combat even your worst hair day. If you mix it with aloe vera, especially, it will help strengthen your hair, thus making it much easier to control.

9 Make a Hair Salad

You can also use mayonnaise on your hair, since it is made primarily of eggs. For that matter, a mixture of egg yolks and plain yogurt will help you control your hair no matter what. In either case, your hair will be left strong, shiny, and healthy, and bad hair days will be things of the past.

It's amazing how many of the ways to avoid bad hair days involve food, or things you can just find around the house at any given time. There's no reason to spend a ton of money on special products and conditioners, even. What do you do to avoid bad hair days?
