Attempting to set and hold curls is the nightmare of every girl with every girl with straight hair. You really love when your hair is curly, but curling it isn’t really worth it when the curls hold for an hour, tops. Trying to set and hold curls in my hair has always been an issue for me, so I’ve spent a lot of time researching just how to get my curls to hold all day. If you’re like me, you may just find a new tip to revolutionize your curls forever!

1 Blast with Cold Air

Blasting your hair with cold air is one of the simplest ways to set and hold curls. After you’ve curled your hair with your iron, blast it with cold air setting on your blow dryer to set the curl. Even if you have super straight hair, blasting your curls with cold air will help you hold the curl all day.

2 Prep Your Ends

When you have straight hair, it might not always be the best idea to add product. Straight hair usually can’t handle a lot of product without looking greasy. However, by adding some type of product, whether it’s gel or a volumizing spray, to the newly dried ends of your hair, you’ll see a vast difference in the longevity of your curls.

3 Blow Dry Upside down

Straight hair can also sometimes mean that your hair doesn’t have much volume or texture on its own. Blow-drying it upside down can add volume and texture to hair that usually can’t achieve on its own. It’s one of the oldest tricks in the book, but you will undoubtedly notice a difference in your curls when you add this tip to your routine.

4 Find the Technique That Works for You

There are so many different ways to curl your hair. There are different types of curling irons, but there are also different techniques to employ. You could try out curling your hair with a flat iron, or maybe sock bun curls will hold best for you. I’ve noticed that many people with straight hair say that sock bun curls hold the best for them, so if you’ve been plagued with straight hair that doesn’t hold a curl, the sock bun may be the first you should try out. No matter what technique works best for you, giving yourself time to figure out just which one is right will make all the difference when it comes to making your curls last all day.

5 Clip Your Curls

No one really thinks to clip their curls when they’re curling their hair at home. However, it’s such a common trick employed by professional hair stylists that we all should follow their example! Clipping each curl up after you curl it will help set the curl, and you can even go farther and blast them with cold air to really get them to stay!

Clipping each curl after curling helps to set the curl in place and keep it from falling out. This is a technique used by professional hair stylists to ensure that the curls stay in place for longer. After clipping the curls, it is also recommended to use a blast of cold air to help the curls stay in place even longer. Additionally, using a hairspray or a curl-defining product can help to keep the curls in place and make them look their best.

6 Practice

If you’re curling your hair for a big event, practice beforehand. Figure out exactly what works for you and what doesn’t. Even if you’re not curling your hair for a big event, practicing and experimenting with what works best for you will only give you better results in the long run!

7 Find the Right Hairspray

Hairspray is so crucial to holding your curls. It’s a trial and error process, so it may take some time to figure out. There are some hairsprays that really work with my hair and some hairsprays that make my curls fall in a matter of minutes. You just have to figure out which works best for you and stick to it! It’s also important to find one that doesn’t leave your hair crunchy or stiff! Like I said, it’s a trial and error process, but when you figure it out, your curls will always hold!

I love curling my hair, but I hate when the curls don’t last. How do you get your curls to hold? I’m always looking for new tips, so let me know in the comments!
