Perfect curls without heat aren’t just a dream! In fact, there are many ways to achieve various types of no heat locks that last and last and laaaast! And whether you’re interested in giving your straight tresses an occasional makeover or looking for ways to give your wavy or curly hair some definition I’m sure you’ll find these upcoming 7 tricks for no heat curls very useful:
1 Invest in a Potent Curl Cream
If you already have curly or wavy hair, a great curl cream is pretty much all you need to get perfect curls with no heat whatsoever! This product should smooth down and define your curls, making them look neat, polished and frizz-free and the best thing about it is that it doesn’t need to be reapplied every day. Simply brush and dampen your hair to re-active the product and you’ll have gorgeous curls or waves every day!
2 Say “Yes” to Shine&Hold Water Based Sprays
These easy to use, non-sticky water based solutions are the ideal thing to use on silky, straight, difficult to adopt a curl pattern hair! All you need to do is choose the one that works best for you and spray it on your damp hair before you twist, pin or try any of the methods for no heat curls listed below.
Flexirods are a perfect choice for all of you hoping to get a set of gorgeous spiral no heat locks! I absolutely love them and the truth is that, once you get used to them, they are fairly easy to use! This no heat styling method enables you to customize the size of your curls as well as the volume by simply wrapping more or less hair onto the rod.
4 Twist It
Have you ever tried twists or knots? Well, you should know they aren’t just a great protective style but a way to get perfect curls without heat as well! Knot your hair in case you want tiny, tightly coiled curls, twist strands two by two to get them to adopt that nice spiral shape or try a different braid/knot or twist pattern in case you want to experiment! There are plenty of great how-to’s all over YouTube so I’m sure you’ll have no problem finding a method that works best for your hair.
5 Use Your Fingers
Still wondering how to curl hair without a set of hot rollers or curling iron? Well, here’s a neat trick to help all of you curly or wavy-haired ladies install a curlier pattern into hair that tends to frizz, pouf and loose its curls as it dries! Simply comb your wet hair using a wide toothed comb them twist individual sections around your finger. Remove your finger gently them more on to the next section and keep doing so until all of your hair is styled exactly the way you want it. Then take a large silk scarf and loosely wrap it around your head to get your hair to retain the given texture. Remove after 30 minutes to an hour and let the rest of the drying process happen naturally.
Are regular rollers giving you troubles at night? Well, this video right here will show you how to curl hair in a very budget-friendly, hassle-free way that won’t make you lose big chunks of your beauty sleep! Yup, my ladies, waking up with a sore scalp is history and I might say one we don’t want to see repeated!
7 Experiment with Pin Curls
Retro pin curls aren’t only a fantastic, super sexy, super glam hairstyle to wear outside but a fantastic way to get big perfect curls without heat as well! All you’ll need is a big pile of bobby pins and some patience and your transformation can start! This curling method does take a lot of time at first but is very comfy to sleep on as well plus you can always tie a scarf over it and wear it rockabilly style until you’re ready to take your curls down.
Are there any other interesting ways to get perfect curls without heat and what method do you use to achieve your no heat locks? I’m definitely looking forward to trying out this sock-curl method and I can’t wait to share my wonderful discovery with my sister!
Sahara Hi okay so my hair is naturally a curly wave and is suuper thick, i try braiding it but it looses the wave and gets frizzy my normal curl is just a mess i really want selena gomez waves or any kind of beachy wave but i dont wanna use heat bc it will kill my hair.....HELP?
Brie @Sahara, i feel your pain. and i am the same way
liza @Nicole Becker I would use bigger sponge roller things, I have the same problem but that seems to work!
amanda Bb straight and Bb's invisible oil!
Ashley I do this every night! I have thick (but fine), naturally curly frizzy hair an this method is GREAT! I started blowing through paper towels so I went to my local craft store and bought some fleece. Now I use the fleece instead of paper and it turns outbeven better!
Kara I found a certain kind of twist braid thats super easy and gives you Taylor swift curls! Literally I'm only eleven and i find this super easy!!!!!!
D I have hair that you could consider strait-ish or wavy and what I do might also work to help make better curls in curly hair. to curl my hair after I take a shower I let it air dry half way then brush it out and then pull it into a pony tail. Then I brush out the pony tail and then I twist it with my fingers/hand until it picks up the curl. I sleep with it like that and then take it out of the pony tail the next day.
Kathryn Hi my hairs naturally curly thick and sometimes frizzy and im trying to keep it natural after years of straightening its really dry sometimes I have good and bad hair days how do I keep it soft and shiny and bouncy
D @Kathryn, I personally have wavy hair but all my friends with curly hair use my trick. You should pull your hair into a pony tail after you take a shower then keep twisting it with your hands until it becomes one big curl. Then just let it dry like that and when it's try take it out. It almost always works!
Jessica Hey!! I LOVEEE my hair curled, I've tried EVERYTHING. Sock curls, rag curls, cocoon curls, and anything I could find. I am no good at heat curls. 1) I'm afraid of the heat 2) I hate waiting for anything. Any tips?? ( On curling irons because my bff curled my hair with her wand and it stayed in for 3 days but it's like 100$ and I loved it then Any good wands or irons?????
Arkana Guys try flaxseed gel. its all natural and no chemicals... u can get the video from youtube on how to make it. it works great and ur hair is very soft as well.
Annonymos I use cacoon curls! ;)
Abi Ok this is great
Anonymous I have shorter hair but it is also thin and fine. It does have some natural curl in it but it also has frizz and some straight areas. I can't find any technique to give me just a cute body wave or even a product that doesn't give me an oily or wet look. What product or technique could I use?
Anonymous @Lyndsie Robinson, thanks, I will try that!
Lyndsie That's actually a great idea for a post on its own, so keep an eye out! For now, have you tried using a salt spray? You can buy it or easily make it yourself, but it adds a ton of wavy body to practically any type of hair without leaving it oily or giving it that wet look. It just adds texture, which works really well with fine hair.
Emma Anyone have an ideas for people who have very frizzy hair to curl it w/ out heat?
Arkana @Emma Mae, i have very frizzy and wavy hair. I use Giovanni hair gel (all natural no surlphate and parabens, lil pricey in india )or flaxseed gel on my damp hair, I make couple of braids from top to bottom and go to bed with it. Nexday, removed the braids and spray holding spray (i use from Tony and Guy, its a silver bottle..sry dont rem the name) and another product that works great is sebastian potion 9. u can also use it on dry hair. Hope this helps. try it and let me know
Anonymous Just an FYI to the girls looking for a GREAT curl cream. Pureology makes an AMAZING curl lotion that even helps curl my naturally straight hair. You can find it at any salon that sells Pureology products! Happy curling!! :0)
Lyndsie Ooh, thanks for the tip! That sounds great!
Jelena Thanks a ton for sharing that with us:) Any info regarding a good curl cream is super-helpful:)
Emily I have really thick and coarse hair and would love tips on curling my hair. A curling iron takes way too long, so I would really love to try big self stick rollers. I was wondering what is the best method to use them, and was wondering if that will give me that celebrity look such as with Kim Kardashian?
Sheila Hey Emily, Here's a great tutorial on how to use rollers! Happy experimenting :)
Anna I wouldn't advise the sock bun method to people with layers, I've tried many times but have never gotten it to work on my hair. Also remember everyone's different and sometimes THE method won't work on everyone's hair. I am looking to try foam rollers overnight, any advice?
Lyndsie Hey Anna, I've been using foam rollers for years, so hopefully I can help. If the stores you go to are like mine, you'll find several styles. Stay away from the smallest foam rollers! They have a tendency to produce really tight curls that you can't really manage, plus they're more apt to get all tangled in your hair. The ones I use most are medium sized, they have more cushion so they don't hurt your head over night either, and you get curls with tons of volume and body. If you're more interested in waves, there are largely ones as well, and they work nicely too. Just for the sake of your scalp, seriously, avoid the smallest size!
Sheila Hey Anna, Personally, I'm not a fan of rollers because they tend to make my curls too tight and kinda crazy looking. The sock bun method has worked great for me actually. So I guess it comes down to figuring out what works for you! :) Happy experimenting.
Anonymous @Anna, interestingly enough, I just took a sock bun out of my hair after painting my apartment (theyre the most secure updo, I find) and I had great curls for the first time ever from that method. I was pretty upset I had to shower after, but I guess you have to keep practicing!
Anonymous I have tried everything to curl my hair, heat no heat doesnt matter! I can not even get a wave in my hair to stay for more than 20 mins! My hairstylist didn't believe me until we tried it and she watched as my hair go straight. I've used Gel, cream, hairspray, everything, and no use. The only time my hair held curls is when i was blonde and my hair was damaged. I love curls but I am not willing to risk my hairs health. Any suggestions?
Anonymous I'm in the same boat. They say you HAVE to do these styles when your hair is WET but i do it when my hair is damp or even dry and it does the same thing.
Sheila Hello there, Welcome to AWS! That's what happens with my hair when I try to straighten it. It always ends up being wavy no matter what. Have you tried a curl activator? Also try rollers in damp hair and leave them on overnight. Hope these work! Thanks for stopping by :)
Emma Does anyone have any suggestions for a spray like she mentioned?
Sheila Hi Emma, Jane Carter and American Crew have water based shine sprays. Do check out the reviews for these. Thanks for stopping by!
Jelena Hi, Emma:) L'oreal had a pretty good selection of various sprays, I had one of those Play Ball (don't remember which one exactly) and it was pretty nice. My next choice will definitely be Nivea Diamond Gloss - I love that smell! If you're going for beachy waves rather than curls, give salt spray a shot:)
Anonymous Try wrapping your hair in an elastic headband. It works wonders with my hair with no product an lasts until I wash it. Look up on you tube no heat curls with head band!
Lyndsie Hey, thanks for visiting All Women Stalk, and for your suggestion! You have to love a technique that doesn't require any product!
Marisa Don't forget rolling hair into a sock bun!
Amanda Try placing a "tube" piece of nylons or tights into the center of your ponytail. Use that to start rolling down the center of your sock bun--works great to hold in all the stray hairs or for layered hair.
Lyndsie Sock buns are fantastic! Thanks for adding that, Marisa, and for reading AWS!
Anonymous I have hair past my mid-back and the sock bun works for me. You might not be using a big enough sock, I had to use one that was almost knee-high to make it bigger to keep all my hair in.
Anonymous you have* (not gave)
Anonymous @Marisa, I have long hair down to my mid back and I tried the sock bun and it failed. I woke up, undid the bun and my hair didn't know what direction it wanted to go. The tricky part of the bun is that you can't really "roll" your hair to it, some stray hairs you gave to just push underneath the bun which causes the craziness.
Anonymous I lovveeee the Curl Conscious Defining Cream by Bumble & Bumble, and Be Curly by Aveda works pretty well too!
Anonymous i love be curly! best i've ever used.
Anonymous i need help with these! i try using these with air dried hair but i don't like that my hair doesn't look glossy. then if i straighten my hair and immediately wrap it, it doesn't hold for very long, even after having the flexicurlers in for a few hours. help?
Sheila Hello! You could always try a good shine spray. That should help keep your hair glossy. Thanks for reading!
Anonymous I love using twists to curl my hair, but if you want waves I recommend braiding your hair into sections, larger for loose beachy waves.
Sandy what is sock-curling method?
Jelena Hey Sandy, it's a curling technique for which you'll need old socks instead of rollers:) Check out the provided video and you'll see it's pretty fun (not to mention super-easy) :)
Anonymous I use One 'n Only Argan Oil Curl Cream and it is a miracle product for wavy and/or curly hair. I can't imagine my hair without it, anymore. I get mine at Sally Beauty Supply.
Anonymous I would also like to know what a good curl cream would be. I have wavy/curly hair already, so can you give me an idea?
Jessica Look up Cutegirlshairstyles Hair Care Routine on Youtube. I watch them for my hair and there is a curl cream there ( I think)
Katrina i have used the sock-curling method since i was a little girl and love it! i only have sons, but use this method on my nieces. you shoud definitely try it!
Cathy what is a good curl cream to use?
Jelena @Rebecca - Can I answer this one? :) Yes! I rarely need to reapply it until the next wash, brushing out the tangles and dampening is all it takes to reactivate the product. Extra tip: apply on wet hair or ,in case your hair dries fast, run wet hands through it after applying the cream - it makes curls look even better.
Rebecca @Mauree, does O.S.I.S hold from day to day till the next wash by simply brushing and dampening?
Jelena @Mauree, YESSS! OSIS is my fav one, too! :)) Tigi's Curls Rock is also good but OSIS does it much better for me.
Anonymous @Mauree, My hair curls up at the end, and I would like corkscrew curls... any suggestions?? Thanks!
Mauree @Cathy, as a stylist there are a few...at shear image in grimsby, ontario canada where I work, one of my fav's is O.S.I.S by scwarzkopf TWIN CURL excellent & creamy, not hard or greasy. Can be used on all curly hair thicknesses as well !
