7 Tips for Creating Ombre Hair at Home ...

Holly

When you want to do something elaborate to your hair, your best bet is to let a professional do it for you. However, salons can get pretty pricey, and it doesn't cost much to buy hair dye at the pharmacy. So if you have your heart set on doing the job yourself, here are a few tips to help you look fabulous:

1. Wear Old Clothes

When you go to the hair salon, they wrap you up to avoid getting hair dye all over your clothes. Since the towels you own are probably too small to wrap around your shoulders, you should wear an old pair of clothes. Then you won't freak out when you stain your shirt or jeans.

2. Brush Your Hair Beforehand

Make sure that you brush out your hair before you put any dye in it. You don't want any tangles or knots in your hair. If they're there, it could make the foiling process difficult, or it could even make the coloring come out uneven.

3. Cut Foils to Different Lengths

If you want to create ombre hair, you need to cut your foils to different lengths. That way, it'll look more natural. If your ombre effect starts at the same level on every single strand of hair, then it won't look as fabulous as it could.

4. Section Your Hair

You're going to need quite a few hair clips when creating the ombre look, especially if your hair is thick and long. Once you divide the sections, you need to place them up with those hair clips. When it's time to color the particular section, then you can take the clip out and start the next step of the process.

5. Foil Your Hair

It's time to put your bleach or hair dye into the foils. You can even apply some of the product to your hair by using your hands or a brush. Once you do, wrap the strand up in a piece of foil and let the color set. Just make sure to fold the foil neatly instead of just crumpling it up. Otherwise, you could end up damaging your hair or making the color uneven.

6. Check the Color Every Few Minutes

It might take a while for your hair to lighten to the color that you want. The kit that your hair dye came with should give you an idea of how long you have to wait, but everyone's hair will respond differently. That's why you have to open up the foils a bit every few minutes to check on the color. Once it's the way you want it, you can remove the foils and wash out your hair.

7. Rinse with Warm Water and Conditioner

When you rinse your hair, avoid using water that is too hot or too cold. You should also avoid using shampoo, because it isn't necessary. All you need is some warm water and conditioner. After that, it's time to let it dry. While you could use a blowdryer, it's healthier for you to let it air dry, so be patient.

Ombre hair is the hottest style this season. You might as well try it at least once to see how well you can rock the trend. If you had ombre hair, what two colors would you want to use?

I'd NEVER consider color at home. Save up and Leave it to the pros.

I've been ombre-ing my hair myself at home for the past 4 years. It's actually a lot easier than this article makes it seem. Basically, get a bleach kit, apply bleach to the bottom inch of your hair, let it sit for 15 minutes, then put more bleach on a little higher up, let it sit for 10 minutes, and then apply a little more a little higher up and let it sit for 5 minutes. Wash and you're done. Really really simple.

Ombré looks like you just need to touch up your roots. No clue, why it's so popular. To me, it just looks undone.

Tip for ombre hair... Get it done at a salon!

Also you NEED to wash the bleach out! You'd have to sit for 30 minutes at least rinsing to get it out, and even then it would likely still be there, causing you to blow dry and damage little bits of your hair immensely or go to sleep, bleach your pillows and damage your hair as it continues to bleach until it is so blonde it falls right off. You do not need to shampoo with most dyes, but ALWAYS shampoo with bleach. Bleach stays active until it is rinsed completely off the hair, normal hair dye does not. Any non blonde dye has a point where it stops developing.

You shouldn't use at home foil with bleach. Professional salon foil is not the same as kitchen foil. Kitchen foil can cause all sorts of bad reactions (anyone want a fire on their head?) if you're doing it at home, which is not recommend since you really can't blend it out yourself, then use plastic wrap or foam wrap if you must (though you really shouldn't need to, just put the bleach on and watch it) and you're good to go. I don't recommend doing it at home. Just google "bad ombré" and it'll come up with thousands of images of ombres done at home or by someone who didn't know what they were doing. Like mixing metal with bleach. This is why salon mixing bowls are always plastic. Metal can react unpredictably and veery badly.

Don't risk ruining your hair. Save up money for a professional.
