Pumpkin and Honey Mask

What better way to make use of one of the best seasonal products around than to make it into a mask that is full of nutrients and vitamins your hair loves (vitamins a and c, beta-carotene, zinc and potassium to name a few.)

1 cup pumpkin puree
1-2 tbsp honey

Mix together the honey and pumpkin until it’s really well combined. Then pack as much of the mix onto your hair as you can. Really slap it on. Wrap up your hair (towel, plastic wrap, shower cap… whatever) and let the mask work its magic for at least 15 minutes. Rinse out well.

Banana and Almond Oil Mask

Did your hair take a bit of battering from the elements? Or maybe it’s just calling out for a bit of extra TLC? The banana will soften your tresses and protect its natural elasticity and the almond oil, as well as smelling divine, will lock in your hair’s moisture. You are going to love how your hair feels after this treatment.

1 medium banana
1 tsp almond oil

Mash up the banana and then mix in the almond oil. Now you can begin the squishy job of massaging the mix into your hair. Be sure to make sure you cover all your hair, particularly those troublesome ends. Leave to rest for 30 minutes and then wash and condition as usual.

Strawberry Mask

If your hair is a bit of a train wreck it’s time to employ some super red strawberry power. I love this DIY mask and you will too if you have combination hair – greasy roots and dry ends. There are 4 ingredients and they’re all magic: the avocado will hydrate and moisturize; the strawberries will regulate your scalp’s production of oil; the apple cider vinegar eliminates dullness; and the baking soda removes product build up.

¼ of a ripe avocado
4 strawberries
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1 tbsp baking soda

Mash up the strawberries and avocado until you’ve got a smooth paste (use a blender or processor if you like). Add in the baking soda and apple cider vinegar and mix until it’s all well combined. Now smush it all over your hair starting from the roots and working it to the ends. Leave it for 10 minutes and then rinse out. Follow it by a wash with your usual shampoo.

End of Summer Mask

This is your friend when you want to add some bounce and shine into your locks. It’s totally worth looking like a troll doll to let this mask do all its special stuff. You need a blender for this one.

½ an avocado
1 egg
1 banana
3tbsp homemade buttermilk ( ½ cup milk and 2 tbsp lemon juice)
2 tbsp honey
3 tbsp olive oil

First make the buttermilk. Mix the milk and lemon juice and let to sit for 5-10 minutes (or buy some from the store!) Now put 3 tbsps on your buttermilk into a blender with all the other ingredients. (You can mash it all together in a bowl if you wish.) Blend until smooth and then apply it to your hair from root to tip. (This is where you get troll doll hair). Wrap your hair up in a towel or shower cap and leave for 30 minutes. Then rinse and wash out with shampoo and conditioner. You might have to shampoo twice but you’ll love the results.

Avocado and Peppermint Mask

If you need some extra hydration, go green. You’ll love the way the peppermint tea invigorates your scalp while the other ingredients lock up your hair’s natural moisture good and tight. Your locks will be luscious and lustrous.

1 avocado
1 tbsp honey
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp loose peppermint tea

Mash up the avocado and then mix in all the other ingredients. Make sure they’re well combined. Now massage the gooey gunk into your hair. Get it all over, including the ends. Let it do its stuff for 30 minutes and then wash and condition as usual.

Grapefruit and Coconut Mask

You may have been drinking coconut but now it’s time to use it to tame your mane. The smell of this DIY mask will transport you to an expensive day spa but there’s no expense involved. And it’s a great clarifying treatment.

1 tbsp grapefruit juice
½ tbsp lemon juice
¼ cup coconut oil

To make, all you have to do is mix the ingredients together. Be warned though, you need some elbow grease to get them well incorporated. When done, work the mix into your hair and scalp. You’ll get some much needed moisture and product build up will be rinsed away when you wash and shampoo.

Egg Yolk and Green Tea Mask

If your locks and limp and lifeless and you’ve noticed breakage recently, this treatment will bring back tresses to treasure. This mask of just two ingredients contains protein to strengthen your hair follicles, vitamin A to prevent dandruff, vitamin D to promote growth and E to improve blood circulation to your scalp. The green tea comes to the party with antioxidants that will make your hair dance with vitality.

1 egg yolk
2 tbsp made up green tea

Mix the egg and tea until you’ve got a frothy mixture. Now apply to your scalp and hair from root to tip. Wrap hair up (towel or shower cap or plastic wrap) and leave it for 30 minutes. Wash and condition as usual.

Where Thoughts and Opinions Converge

Please, stop giving people bad advice such as baking soda and lemon juice. They do absolutely nothing beneficial for your hair or skin and will only harm it.
