When I decided to go natural five years ago, I thought π I would say goodbye to bad hair π days forever. Now that I didn't have to worry about getting caught in the rain β and could just wake up and rock my twist out, the time π I spent on my hair in the mornings would drastically be cut in half, right?
Girls, oh how I was wrong. Sometimes, it seems like having natural hair takes a lot more time, money π² and effort. If you're like me, you either follow many natural hair blogs or spend most of your time watching YouTube tutorials.
Trying to look like you woke up like this is stressful AF. Whether you're short on time π or have a big event coming up, these tips and tricks will make you look like the boss naturalista you are ππ .

1. Set up a Schedule π to Deep Condition Your Hair
Whether you're transitioning from a perm or have been natural for years, deep conditioning your hair is really important. It will moisturize your hair and prevent breakage down the line. I usually deep condition my hair every two weeks but I know people who do it weekly.
2. Comb out Your Hair π While It's Still Wet
Because my hair is really thick, combing it out while I'm washing πΏ it is the best way to get rid of tangles. I've also noticed that it reduces shrinkage, which is always a plus! You can also use detangling shampoo and conditioner
4. Never Underestimate the Power of a Good Twist out π
Girls, this is the golden rule. I have really thick and curly hair, which is why my go-to hairstyle is a twist out or braid out. I usually just divide my hair into two quick french braids, add coconut oil and let it set as I sleep. That way I can just wake up and be ready to go!
5. Give Your Hair a Break from That Blow Dryer π’
If your hair is more prone to breakage, avoid using a blow dryer π’ to dry your hair. Instead, separate your hair into box braids and let it dry naturally. Here's an added bonus: When you comb it out later, your curl pattern will be more defined.
6. Turn Heads with a Braided Look π
When I'm pressed for time, my go-to look is french braids with a beat face. They're super low maintenance and can be dressed up or down. Honestly, I have a short attention span with the patience to match so I can't always be bothered trying out an overly complicated style.
7. Hair Care Starts from the Bottom up ππ AKA Your Pillowcase
Rest your head on a silk or satin pillowcase like the queen ππΈ you are. This will prevent your hair from drying out as you sleep, especially if you're like me and you often forget to wrap your hair at night.
