Conquer dry, frizzy strands with cheap DIY hair masks for winter. These simple to make and apply masks will revive your hair. Imagine how great it'll be spending the winter getting compliments on your shiny, healthy looking hair. Try a few of these DIY hair masks for winter and you'll instantly be hooked and likely want to use them all year long.
1. Avocado and Honey
One of my favorite DIY hair masks for winter is the ultimate frizz fighter. Static doesn't have to be your enemy any longer if you use this mask every few weeks. Plus, it moisturizes and strengthens hair. Combine the meat of a well ripened avocado with one tablespoon of honey and two tablespoons of olive oil. Mix well and apply to clean hair. Leave on for 30 minutes and shampoo out.
2. Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey
Apple cider vinegar might sound too drying, but it's great at removing gunky build-up that makes your hair look dull. The honey revives it so you have super clean, smooth and healthy hair. Mix one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, one tablespoon of olive oil and two tablespoons of honey. Apply evenly to clean hair and leave on 20-30 minutes. Shampoo out.
3. Bananas, Milk and Honey
Give your hair an instant health and shine boost with this super tasty mask. Honestly, it really does taste good. Start with two ripe bananas, two tablespoons of honey and a half a cup of milk. Mix extremely well and apply evenly to clean hair. Leave on for 20 minutes and shampoo out. What I love most is the light, sweet scent left behind.
4. Mayonnaise and Honey
While it might not sound appetizing, it'll make your hair super soft and eliminate winter dryness. Don't use this more than once a week or you might end up with oily hair instead. Mix half a cup of mayonnaise with two tablespoons of honey. Apply evenly to clean hair and leave on for 30 minutes. Shampoo out. With this one, you might not even need your regular conditioner.
5. Almond and Banana
This is one of the simplest masks to make on this entire list. Plus, it leaves your hair soft, frizz free and ultra shiny. Smash one ripe banana and add in 1-3 drops of almond oil. Apply evenly to hair and leave on for 15 minutes. Rinse the mask out with soda water to really get the most benefit from the mask and remove any excess oil. Shampoo as usual.
6. Oatmeal and Milk
If the cold winter temperatures have already damaged your hair, heal it quickly with this simple, yet effective mask. This one is a little harder to apply because the mix will be thick. Combine one tablespoon of oatmeal, one tablespoon of milk and one tablespoon of almond oil. If you have naturally oily hair, use about half as much almond oil. Apply and leave on for 20 minutes. Shampoo out.
7. Bananas and Mayonnaise
Nothing is quite as effective at giving you shiny hair as bananas and mayonnaise. Combine them and you'll look like a celebrity. Plus, your hair will love the added moisture. Mix two ripe bananas, one tablespoon of olive oil and three tablespoons of mayonnaise. Apply evenly to clean hair and leave on for 30 minutes. Rinse and shampoo as usual.
8. Avocado and Mayonnaise
Sometimes my scalp gets so dry during the winter and I can't help but scratch at it. This great little mask moisturizes hair and soothes dry, itchy scalps. Trust me, your head will thank you. Mix one well ripened avocado with one tablespoon of mayonnaise. Apply evenly to clean hair and make sure the mixture covers your scalp. Leave on for 20-30 minutes and rinse out. Use a dry scalp shampoo for extra relief.
9. Egg and Honey
Strengthen your hair, add shine and get rid of frizz with one mask. It's easy to make and covers all the winter hair needs. Mix one medium or large egg with a third of a cup of honey and three tablespoons of olive oil. Apply evenly to hair and leave on for 30 minutes. Rinse and shampoo out.
If you have long hair, you might need to double the ingredients to have enough to cover all your hair. Use one of these masks weekly and forget about brittle, dull winter hair ever again. Try them all to see which ones work best for you. Which mask is your favorite?
