1. Think One Year from Now
Will you be sick of this hairstyle a year from now? Depending on how drastic this hairstyle change is, you may still have this hairstyle a year from now. If you think you may be sick of this hairstyle a year or so from now, it’s probably best to keep thinking about it for a little bit longer before changing your hair. You could even go for a less drastic change if you’re not fully ready to commit just yet!
2. Think Five Years from Now
I usually make my fashion and hairstyle choices with one rule in mind, will I regret this five years from now when I see pictures of it? If the answer’s yes, I don’t buy the outfit I’m looking at, or have the haircut I’m considering. So far, it’s kept me from making some questionable style decisions to say the least. If you’re trying to decide whether or not to change your hair drastically, ask yourself that question. If you won’t regret it, you can go into the change with no worries!
Frequently asked questions
3. Trends
As you’ve probably noticed, the longer bob is everywhere this year. As someone who has spent seven years trying to grow my hair out after an unfortunate snap decision haircut, I couldn’t bring myself to follow the trend. As much as I loved it on everyone else, I knew that I’d hate it on myself a few months later, and if I did cut it, I’d only be doing so to follow a trend. If you’re doing something simply to follow a trend, give your drastic change some more thought before fully committing.
4. Is It Permanent?
Just how permanent is this change? If you have dark hair and want to bleach it to eventually dye it a crazy color, you have to consider just how permanent that is. Bleaching strips your hair of its natural color. Are you ready for something that permanent?
5. Are You Equipped to Handle This Hairstyle?
You may be used to an easy “blow-dry and go” style, and you may be committing to a style that’s not as easy. Make sure you have the time, tools, and patience to commit to a new style that could completely change your morning routine. After you’ve figured that out, embrace your new hairstyle!
6. Will This Work for You?
How will your new hairstyle look on you? If you can’t picture it without the help of some visuals, do a few Google searches to find a virtual hair salon to try out the new style. Personally, I’ve always loved dark brown hair on celebrities, but when I tried it out myself, it didn’t work with my complexion. You’ll never know for sure until you see it on yourself, so look for a website that lets you virtually try it out!
7. Talk to Your Stylist
If you trust your stylist, talk it out and see what the professional thinks. Your stylist is trained to know what looks good and what doesn’t. If you’re worried you might be making a mistake, your stylist will talk you into or out of it, depending on how your drastic hairstyle will work for you!
