There are ways we can make our damaged hair glossy and beautiful again, and I’m going to show you 7 ways to do just that! Keep on reading for 7 ways to breathe new life into dry, damaged hair.
1. Air It out
When you’re dealing with damaged hair, the last thing you want to do is expose it to heat, which can further damage your locks. After you wash your hair, air dry it and use a wide toothed wooden comb or your fingers to comb through your hair. Wet hair is extremely weak, so save the combing for once your hair is damp or almost dry so you don’t snag or snap it!
2. Try Heat-free Styling
While you’re trying to repair your hair, try out some heat-free styles. You can create gorgeous, natural looking waves and curls by rolling your hair up with an old T-shirt you cut into strips, braiding your hair or going all old school by using sponge rollers! Forgoing the heat tools will save your hair from the scorching heat, which can strip your hair of its natural oils.
3. Use Natural or Sulphate-free Shampoos
If you have dry hair, using a harsh shampoo with lots of chemicals isn’t going to do it any favors. Some traditional shampoos are harmful to your hair, scalp, body and the environment from the chemicals and carcinogens. Using a natural shampoo can help improve the condition of your hair from the natural oils, help promote new hair growth, are non-allergenic and environmentally friendly!
4. Weekly Deep Conditioning
Consistent deep conditioning is imperative to helping restore moisture and softness to damaged hair! There are so many options in DIY deep conditioners that you can concoct your own or look for one at the drugstore. The key is to let the conditioner sit in your hair for at least 30 minutes and to keep it up every week. Within a few uses you should start to see and feel a difference!
5. Massage Your Scalp
Giving yourself a scalp massage not only feels good, it can help damaged, dry hair. According to Discover Health, a scalp massage can help stimulate the production of endorphins and serotonin, which can help put you in a better mood, reduce stress, strengthen hair follicles, increase blood flow to help hair grow and nourish your hair with natural oils. Give yourself a gentle, relaxing scalp massage about twice a week.
6. Get Regular Trims
If you have damaged hair, chances are you have some split ends, also. In order to get rid of dead ends and damage, get regular trims every few weeks. Having split ends can impede hair growth so it’s best to get them chopped off for new hair growth and to help hair to appear healthier. Then you can start showing off healthier-looking locks!
7. Go for Boar
Brushing your hair is important to distribute your hair’s natural oils, and using a boar bristle brush can be even better! Boar bristle brushes are naturally hard with densely packed bristles. That can be a bit intimidating at first but they’re excellent at removing dirt and debris from your hair, help massage your scalp and distribute oils. Keep in mind that this type of brush shouldn’t be used on knotty or tangled hair, use your fingers to detangle first and then brush it out with the brush.
