Simple hairstyles for bad hair days are lifesavers when it comes to concealing this inevitable agony. You don’t need to have the chops for fancy braids or classic up-dos for the hairstyles I’m about to share with you. All you need are few minutes of your time and of course the basic hair accessories. Hide behind those hats no more with these simple hairstyles for bad hair days.

1 Slick It

The slicked back hairstyle is frequently worn by high fashion models on the catwalk. It works on any hair length and is great for turning those greasy hair days into a minimalist chic look. Whether you are sporting a haircut as short as Miley Cyrus or as long as Kim Kardashian, the sexy slicked back look is just one of the effortless choices of hairstyles for bad hair days. Slick it sideways, backwards or into a ponytail, whichever way you prefer, and your runway ready hairstyle is done!

Frequently asked questions

2 Twisted Bangs

I can’t be the only one who has spent countless futile efforts trying to style my bangs, right? A quick fix to stubborn bangs that just won’t fall right is the twist back. To start off, take two small sections of hair from the front. Twist the section closest to your parting over the other, adding more hair to the front section as you go. Secure with bobby pins to hold the braid in place.

3 Messy High Bun

Of course this list wouldn't be complete without the messy bun. Tease your hair before you start if you like to add more volume to this look. Flip your hair upside-down and tie it into a ponytail but not all the way, leaving a few inches of hair which you will then wrap around the bun and tuck into the elastic band. Use bobby pins to pin parts of the hair that are sticking out from the bun. You don’t have to be too neat while doing this because like its name suggests, it’s meant to be messy!

4 Side Chignon

I have a weakness for hairstyles that embrace the messy look given that my curls are constantly matted, and the messy chignon does just that. Bring your hair to the side in a ponytail and wrap the ponytail towards the right in a circular motion. Tuck it away under the elastic band and use bobby pins to prevent the bun from falling out. Channel the swinging 60s with a messy side chignon and winged eyeliner!

5 Sideways Fishtail Braid

I love fishtail braids! They are so pretty and you can even weave in small flowers for that extra sweet look. It might take you a little longer when starting off but I guarantee it’s an easy hairstyle to master! Divide your ponytail into two once you've gotten it into a side ponytail. Take one strand from the right section and pass it over to the left section. Then take another strand from the left section and pass it over to the right. Repeat this until you reach the bottom of your hair then tie it with an elastic hair tie or ribbon. Be careful to not snip your hair when you cut off the top elastic hair tie.

6 Inverted Ponytail

A regular ponytail would be a far too common style to hide your unruly tresses. Achieve a classier look with the inverted ponytail. Start off by tying your hair into a ponytail. Separate the hair above the elastic band into two, creating a hole to pull your ponytail down through and lightly tug at it to tighten. Check out the tutorial for other easy looks you can re-create with the inverted ponytail. I especially like the inverted ponytail chain. It’s so simple but looks as if you spent more than a few minutes to get it done!

7 Ponytail Rope Braid

Another trendy and easy variation to the regular ponytail is the ponytail rope braid. Braids can be difficult to do but the only skill you will need for this one is twisting! Pull your hair up into a high ponytail and split it into two sections. Twist each section counter-clockwise all the way down then twist them over each other in the opposite direction and tie it with an elastic hair tie. Slightly pull each section apart to make the braid look thicker.

8 The Hair Bow

Look super cute and bow-tiful with this hairstyle that is perfect to mask bad hair days. The hair bow hairstyle can be done with curly hair as well and is so much simpler than it looks! All you need to do is gather your hair into a high ponytail but loop it only half way through, the loose ends facing your forehead. Section the knot into two which will create each side of the bow. Then tuck the loose ends of the ponytail backwards between the two side bows you just created and voilà, you are done!

9 The Gibson Tuck

This last look is so elegant and vintage that you have to try it at least once! The Gibson Tuck is a hairstyle from the Victorian era and is named after the Gibson Girl. It can be done with an elastic hair tie but I suggest using and an elastic Gatsby-ish headband accessory for a more roaring 20s vibe. Just put the headband on and starting with hair closest to your ears, tuck away! Yes, it’s that simple!

Try these hairstyles the next time you can’t afford to spend another minute taming your unruly tresses. You’re sure to get tons of compliments and who would have guessed you spent no less than a few minutes to look great! How do you like to wear your hair on bad hair days and which of these is your favourite?
