1. Choose a Shampoo and Conditioner for Dry, Brittle Hair
It’s a good idea to change out your shampoo and conditioner when the seasons change. Your hair needs more moisture in the winter than it does in the summer. You want to look for a shampoo and conditioner that has ingredients that’ll nourish your hair. A couple I like are Redken All Soft shampoo and conditioner and Bed Head Recovery shampoo and conditioner. There’re also options in the drugstore line. OGX Argan Oil of Morocco shampoo and conditioner is a drugstore option that’s promises healthy hair and a glossy shine.
2. Treat Your Hair to a Moisturizing Hair Mask
While it’s important to use a good daily conditioner, your hair needs something more on occasion. A weekly moisturizing treatment is just the thing to revive dull, dry hair. Hair masks are deep conditioners that you apply and leave on for 10-20 minutes then rinse out. A couple great ones to try are Amika Nourishing Hair Mask or one from the Aussie Three Minute Miracle line. You’ll notice such a difference in your hair.

3. Add a Hair Serum into Your Hair Routine
Hair serum is a magical little hair product. It adds a beautiful shine and makes your hair look healthy even when it isn’t. The best way to use serum is to apply a small amount when it’s wet. A little bit goes a long way. Think pea or perhaps dime-sized amounts.
4. Turn down the Heat
Heat styling tools completely transform our hair and that’s why we love them. But unfortunately, they’re also damaging and drying. Since giving them up isn’t an option for most of us, consider turning down the heat. This can go far in helping you achieve healthier hair. And when you can, give your hair a complete day off from heat styling.
5. Embrace Second Day Hair
I’m going to admit that I’m late jumping on the second day hair trend. For years, I washed my hair daily but am slowly converting to washing every other day. Washing your hair daily can strip it of natural oils that keep it healthy and shiny. Style your hair in a braid or a bun if it isn’t freshly washed to hide the fact that it’s dirty. More than likely, no one will ever know but you.
6. Go with the Flow
Go with the flow, meaning go with your natural hair texture. If you’ve got curls, let them show. If you’re a straight-haired lass then embrace it! Going with your natural hair texture saves your hair from the potential damage it receives when you try to manipulate it into an opposite texture. I’ll tell you a secret here, too. You’ll probably be shocked at how many compliments you recieve once you accept the hair fate gave you.
7. Eat Healthy 🍍
This tip isn’t as interesting of fun as the others. It’s hard to top shopping and experimenting with new hair products! But the truth is that your hair reflects your lifestyle choice. If you eat right and live a healthy lifestyle, it shows. It’s okay if you can’t change your habits overnight; just make it a goal you work toward.
These’re 7 tips to help you have healthy, shiny winter hair. What’re your favorite hair products this time of year? I can’t wait to hear from you!
