7 Tips for Making Your Dry Hair More Manageable ...

Dry hair can be frustrating to work with. If you have dry hair then you’ll fully agree with that statement. However, all hope isn’t lost. These’re some tips for making your dry hair manageable which will make your life a little sweeter.

1. Don’t Wash It Everyday

Dry hair needs the natural oil your scalp produces to keep it moisturized. The look, feel and smell of freshly washed hair can be positively intoxicating but if you wash daily then you’re robbing your hair of some awesome benefits. Go for every other day or even every third day if your hair allows. There’re advantages to dirty hair that we forget about. Besides giving your hair much needed moisture, it also usually styles better than freshly washed hair.

2. Use a Moisturizing Shampoo and Conditioner

When you do wash your hair, it’s important to choose the right shampoo and conditioner. Dry hair needs a shampoo and conditioner that’re designed specifically for that hair concern. I’ve tried enough shampoos and conditioners that I can safely say there’re good options in all price ranges. It’s more about the results you receive than the name on the label. It may take a bit of experimenting before you find the right one for your hair.

3. Weekly Deep Conditioner is a Must

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Giving our hair a weekly deep conditioning treatment is something we should all do, no matter what type our hair is. But for gals with dry hair, deep conditioning is vitally important. Deep condition your hair at least once a week. Twice would be even better. To get all you can out of your deep conditioning treatment, wrap your hair in a warm, damp towel and allow the conditioner to do it’s work for 20 minutes before rinsing out.

4. Serum is Your Friend

Serum is a lovely little product. It makes your hair look glossy and smoothes flyaways. It’s a nice little addition to your hair product collection if you have normal hair. If you have dry hair then it’s an absolute necessity. Use a pea to dime size amount, rubbing into your hair before blow drying. If you’ve never used it before then prepare to be wowed!

5. Air Dry Whenever Possible

Blow drying your hair is drying to it, of course. It pulls the natural moisture right out of it and we’re not just talking about the wet factor. Whenever you can, allow your hair to air dry. Of course this won’t work for every day but air dry when you can. When you must blow dry your hair, do so on a low heat setting and use a heat protectant.

6. Cut Back on Heat Styling

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Heat styling is harsh on every hair type, most of all on dry hair. But it’s impossible for most of us to get through life without our favorite flat iron or curling iron. Do what you can to cut back on how often you heat style your hair. A helpful hint to remember is if you don’t wash your hair daily then your heat styling should only be needed for touch ups on days in between washing. Another tip is to turn down the temperature on your styling tools.

7. Experiment with Natural Oils

(Your reaction) Thank you!

Natural oils can be helpful if you have a lot of dryness at the ends of your hair. Some examples of natural oils are almond, argon or coconut oil. Ask your hairdresser which is best for your hair. You can use them in a couple different ways. You can use them as a hair treatment and saturate the ends of your hair before bed or in place of a hair serum.
