15 Easy and Quick Updos to do in 5 Minutes or Less ...

By Heather

Everyone I know has told me at least once that I should wear my hair down more, but with so many easy updos to choose from, I just love wearing my hair out of my face. Believe it or not, updos can be extremely quick and they are easier to create than you might think. In fact, I tend to spend more time trying to fix my hair the way I like it wearing it down, than I do wearing it up! Certain easy updos that take under 5 minutes can make you more confident, feel more relaxed, and even less uptight. I can’t stand my hair in my face or if I’m trying to wear it in a way that doesn’t feel comfortable, or like me. Pulling my hair up just makes me feel good, so I do! Try these 15 high fashion, easy updos next time you want to look great and be less worried about your gorgeous mane at the same time!

1 Ballerina Bun

clothing, hair, hairstyle, bangs, black hair, One of my favorite sleek, easy updos is the ballerina bun. First, make sure your hair is long enough to pull up in a high ponytail. Then, proceed by brushing all your strands in the ponytail well so they’re smooth and tangle-free. Next, grab the base of the ponytail, below the elastic closest to your hand, with your left hand. Now, take your right hand and pull the ponytail around to make a loop. Pull the end of the ponytail through the part of hair in your right hand to make a loose knot. Now, just fold all the loose ends of the ponytail around the knot to make a bun. Pin them down with bobby pins. Finally, spray it with hairspray!

2 The Easier than It Looks Updo

hair, hairstyle, long hair, braid, chignon, A friend recommended this updo to me after seeing it online and it is really so easy to create and is absolutely beautiful too! To create this look, all you’ll be doing is making a teased, loose bun with the bottom section of your hair and securing it with bobby pins, and then taking the top half portion of your hair to create an upside down ponytail before pinning it loosely around into a bun as well. What you end up with is a beautiful hairstyle that looks like you paid major money for it. Oh, and as a bonus, it takes about 3 minutes to create once you get the hang of it!

3 Inside out Pony Tail Bun

hair, hairstyle, woman, nose, close up, One of my favorite simple updos is to simply put my hair into a high ponytail, and then tuck the bottom portion of the ponytail in the part of the elastic of the ponytail to create a loose upside down “tuck” effect. Then, pull it up at the very top with a little tug to secure things and you’re good to go! If you need to, pin any loose strands up at the back of your head with bobby pins. This is my go-to hairstyle and my all-time favorite!

4 Twist around Side Braid

hair, blond, hairstyle, woman, supermodel, I’m in love with this! It isn’t actually an updo, but it does keep your hair out of your face and it takes less than five minutes. It actually isn’t a braid, but more of a creative ponytail. It won’t only have people asking you what you did, but asking you how to do it! To create this, pull your hair in a side ponytail, and then divide the ponytail into two “tails,” and pull them through the opening space right before the ponytail starts, into an “upside down” ponytail. Then, just keep repeating this, creating multiple upside ponytails throughout the whole entire head of hair. It creates this twisted braid effect that is so easy to do! You'll need several elastic bands for this one as well!

5 Low Chignon

hair, hairstyle, blond, bangs, long hair, My favorite low updo is the low chignon, which is great for nights out when you’re going somewhere special, or you just want to give it a little something extra special. Pull your hair up like you’re pulling it half up half down, and clip the top half of your hair up away from your face, just to get it out of the way. Fluff up the bottom half of your hair that is still left down so you get a little volume. If you have thin hair, tease the bottom portion of your hair a little. Then, just take an elastic band and pull it back into a ponytail, pulling it under into a tuck bun. Loosely pull the bun, just to give it a little messy texture. Now, take the top half of your hair that is pinned up, and pull the right side of your hair down around the left side of the low bun, and take the left side of your hair, pulling it down around the right side of the bun, pinning each around your bottom bun. Then, spray a little with hairspray, pin more if needed and you’re done!

6 Side Pony

hair, blond, hairstyle, layered hair, woman, This simple updo is so cute and a real classic! All you need to do is tease your hair at the top just a little to get some volume at your roots and then comb it back down a little to smooth things out. Then, pull your hair into a side ponytail and if you want, you can take a piece of the hair at the bottom portion underneath the ponytail to wrap it around and pin it around your ponytail. This can help create a classier, more defined look, or you can choose to just leave it in a ponytail and head out the door. I love a simple side ponytail, which looks unique and different than a standard pony. It is also fun to wear out if you’re going somewhere special but don’t want to wear your hair just down.

7 Twist, Clip and Pin

hair, hairstyle, bangs, black hair, layered hair, This hairstyle is also super simple and looks fashionable at the same time. All you need to do is twist your hair in one piece like you’re making a ponytail, and then grab the ends of your hair, clipping it to your head with a large clip in the middle of the ponytail. Then, let the top parts of the ponytail just fall around the rest of the clipped up hair on top. If you need to, pin any loose strands around you face, or at the base of the ponytail if you have heavy hair like I do, to secure everything. This takes under a minute and is great if you’re heading out for a short errand and don’t want to mess with your hair.

8 The Princess Roll

hair, hairstyle, blond, bangs, long hair, The Princess Roll is yet another easy updo that looks like you spent hours doing it. It's classy, chic and it's unique! Start off by texturizing your hair with sea salt spray or other texturizing product. Next, grab a stretchy, rubber headband like Scunci No Slip Grip No Damage Elastic Headwrap and place on your head like you would a flower crown. If you have thicker hair, using two headbands might work better. Starting from one side of your head by your temple area, start wrapping your hair up and over the headband and tucking it in. Keep wrapping your hair around the headband until you reach the other side. Lastly, set everything in place with hairspray or a couple of bobby pins if needed and you're good! 9 Faux Bob

hair, hairstyle, eyelash, bangs, layered hair, I absolutely love the faux bob look. It's sexy yet sophisticated and it's a fun way to envision yourself with short hair. The first step is to curl your hair, preferably using a 1.5 inch barrel. Also, try to alternate the direction you curl you hair so you get more texture. Next, pull your hair into a low ponytail and tuck the end of your pony tail underneath with bobby pins. Then, tug a few pieces of hair to make it fuller and you're done.

10 Bow Tie

hair, pink, face, hairstyle, blond, I know it looks really complicated, but after you get used to it this updo can be in less than five minutes. All you have to do is put your hair in a ponytail, make a bun, and divide the loop into two separate pieces that look like a bow. After you clip those pieces down, bring the piece wrapped around your hair tie between the two sections and secure it under the hair tie. I know it sounds complicated, but once you get the hang of it you'll be able to do it quickly and impress all your friends.

11 Braided Back Bun

hair, hairstyle, hair coloring, long hair, forehead, Another hairdo that looks super complicated, but takes only a few minutes. Just flip your head upside down, braid half of it, and then fold the rest of your hair back into a bun. It's a really cool looking bun that looks like it took your forever, but it's actually quick. What I love about this is it looks like someone else had to do it for you, but not only can you do it yourself it only takes a few minutes!

12 Braid Ponytail

hair, face, hairstyle, eyebrow, nose, Do you love french braids? Do you love ponytails? Well, then this was made for you! It doesn't look too complicated, but that's fine because sometimes you just want to look cute! All you have to do is start a french braid, but once you've reached the part of your hair you'd put into a ponytail do just that. Make sure you secure the braid so that it doesn't come undone in your ponytail.

13 Tuck and Cover

hair, hairstyle, face, long hair, braid, I personally love this hair do a lot! It's sleek, simple, and guaranteed to get people asking you just how you did it. Put a stretchy headband on and then take another one and put it across your forehead. Once you have both of these on take your loose hair and start to tuck it into the headband. When you're done tucking your hair, move the headband on your forehead until it covers your other one. If any tails or flyaways slip out just wrap and retuck them. Finish with hairspray.

14 High Ponytail

hair, human action, hairstyle, girl, brown hair, Maybe this isn't the most creative hairdo on this list, but that doesn't mean it's not super cute. It's a really simple look that when paired with the right outfit can make you look extremely sleek and chic. Doesn't everyone want to know how to look like that in less than five minutes? All you have to do is make a ponytail higher and righter than you normally would. It's nothing too crazy, but it looks great for the day or night.

15 Twisted Bun

hair, hairstyle, long hair, brown hair, french braid, Another quick but cute look that can be worn in day or night! All you have to do is create a side part and take the front section of hair on the right side and twist upward. After that just secure at the back of the head, and then put hair up into a bun.

Updos are a great way to give yourself a sophisticated look that also looks fun, but they don’t have to be hard. As you can see with these cute, under 5 minute updos, they are really quite simple and might just make your hair the topic of conversation wherever you go! What’s your favorite updo?
